[Academic robes of Oxford, Cambridge, and Edinburgh Universities.]

Talking to one of my professors he mentioned he’d never met an academic who, at the end of their career, wished they had spent a few more days in the office. I observed that he had a skewed sample since he was looking only at academics who could look back on a long and successful career. There may be plenty of people who had a good balance of life and work – but no longer work at an R1. He has Tenure so his world is a little different from mine.
There are days when everyone should reconsider what they are doing with their life in academia.  “I left Academia because…” from Claire Lower speaks to the concerns that many of us have:
